Terms and Conditions

The event follows a pre-determined route onto Foulness Island with a clearly marked loop on the island itself. Riders have the choice of completing their challenge with or without the loop/s. As a guide approximate* ride distances are:

Without the loop (11miles*), 1 loop (15miles*), 2 loops (19 miles*) or 3 loops (23 miles*).
Please note: the loop will close at 1:30pm

Riders must follow the rules of the ‘Highway Code’; they should keep to the left-hand side of the road and not ride more than two abreast. Although there is limited traffic on Foulness Island the normal ‘Rules of the Road’ still apply – www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code.

Always follow direction/instruction from the Event Stewards.

Toilet facilities will be available at the start and at various points along the route.

Event Stewards will be stationed at various points around the route to ensure safety.

The organisers will take all reasonable steps to sign the route but riders should be aware that they are riding on private highways and should exercise due care and attention at all times.

Both before and during the event The Organisers retain the right to alter/divert or close the route, or any part thereof, where it is deemed applicable or necessary due to unforeseen circumstances.

The circuit beyond Churchend involves around half a mile of loose gravel track only suitable for bikes with road tyres, it is not suitable for bikes with stabilisers.

Remember that it can be cold and windy on Foulness Island so please dress accordingly and don’t forget your protective sun cream!

Entrants must:

Stay off farmland and do not stray away from the designated route or disturb farm animals/wildlife.

Please do not litter and place all rubbish in the bins or black sacks provided.

Parking:

There will be limited off road car parking for entrants, vehicles must be parked in the designated areas as directed by the Event Stewards at the field, adjacent to 129 Shoebury Road, Great Wakering, SS3 0BB. What Three Words: ///owls.galloped.gasping

Please note: Entrants using the designated parking area/s do so entirely at their own risk and no liability whatsoever will be accepted by The Organisers and/or their sponsors for any damage caused or incident in or around these parking areas.

Additional information:

On completion of the event, riders will be presented with a ‘Foulness Bike Ride Medal’ which will serve as proof of completion of their challenge.

In the event of an MoD operational requirement the ride may be cancelled at short notice.

In the unlikely instance that the event is unavoidably cancelled and The Organisers are not able to reschedule, your entry will be transferred to the following year’s event. Refunds will not be offered or given except in exceptional circumstances as determined by The Organisers whose decision will be final.

All sponsorship proceeds should be passed in their entirety to the entrant’s nominated charity. Riders are not permitted to use sponsorship proceeds to offset any expenses they may have incurred. Entrants are required to notify The Organisers (quoting their Entry Number) of the total amount raised at the event, or by email:- info@foulnessbikeride.org.uk

Please note: The Organisers accept no liability or responsibility whatsoever for the collection of sponsorship money. The responsibility for the collection and payment of all proceeds is between the entrant and their nominated charity.

The Organisers and event sponsors accept no liability for any lost or damaged articles.

Spectators are not allowed on Foulness Island but those meeting and supporting entrants can wait at the event start/finish area.

COVID Precautions:

The Organisers place the safety of the event entrants at the heart of all they do, therefore we please ask all entrants not take part if displaying any symptoms of COVID.

Entrants should follow the COVID secure measures in place at the time which will be outlined nearer the time of the event.

In the unlikely event of a National or Local Lockdown where the event has to be cancelled, you will be offered the option of donating the entry fee to a Rotary Charity account or requesting a refund.

Information of a rider’s personal data may be retained by The Organisers via its own officials and contracted agents for the purpose of event organisation, administration, promotion and to inform you about or to promote future events. Your information may also be passed to your nominated charity. Some of the information disclosed to us may be classed as sensitive personal data (as defined by ‘the Act’). By completing the Registration Form or agreeing to the ‘Terms and Conditions’ online you confirm to have read, understood and agreed to the purposes for which your personal data will be held and used. Entry to The Event is strictly only on acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. ‘Southend City Rotary Club’ comply with the ICO [Information Commissioner’s Office] in line with the Data Protection Act 1998 for the purposes detailed above.
