Foulness Bike Ride: A Cycling Tradition

The Foulness Bike Ride began as a single event in 1997 aimed at supporting local causes. Over the years, it has grown into an annual fun ride that attracts hundreds of cyclists who fundraise for the charity of their choice while also sharing the exclusive landscape of Foulness Island.

Sunday 13th September 2026 – The Foulness Route

The Foulness Map

The 2026 ride starts at from a car park close to Cupids Country Club, at: Shoebury Road, Great Wakering SS3 0BB, where car parking is available. What Three Words: ///owls.galloped.gasping

Upon sign up, riders choose their start time, (from 9am). After setting off, participants are guided to the entrance of Foulness Island.

It is approximately 5.5 miles from the start (shown at the bottom of the map)to Foulness Island’s Churchend, where riders can either choose to ride back to the start to complete an 11 mile ride, or they can also ride the ‘loop’ via Foulness Island’s Heritage Centre, Arncoat Corner and Tree Farm. Each loop is approximately 4 miles and most riders aim to complete 3 loops, making a total ride of 23 miles – but it is the rider’s choice.

Upon sign up, riders choose their start time, (from 9am). After setting off, participants are guided to the entrance of Foulness Island.

As the ride is on MoD land, every participant is checked in at Landwick for entry to the Island. The loop from Churchend closes at 1.30pm so riders will not be able to ride any further than Churchend after 1.30pm. If you are looking for further information please see our Frequent Asked Questions.

The Heritage Centre has a lovely selection of refreshments if you fancy a stop to enjoy a snack and take in the scenery.
